AS Level Work

All of these photos are from my first year studying photography at college. The photos are from my coursework throughout the year and some final pieces. I have only selected some of the best images from every set I produced as I took hundreds of photos that gave similar messages. They are not in any particular order.

The heart photos were taken to resemble how precious and vital the organ is in a physical and symbolic way. I was extremely happy with these photos because no one else had thought of using a real anatomical heart in their work which I believe added an element of surrealism to my work.

The next set of photos are to represent neglect. I was looking at local issues where I live and neglect of children were one of them. To show this I used children in a deprived surrounding and torn clothes which give a clear statement of the extent of neglect that the young face today.

These images represent the issue of identity and how society determines who a person is and how it influences them to change. I also used the image of being a prisoner as a metaphor for how society treats its individuals.

Out of all of my AS portfolio this next set of photos were the most fun to take. These photos were for my exam topic which was 'Rhythms and Cycles' and so the first thing that came to mind was liquid and how easy it flows and the patterns it can make. However in order to do this effectively I had to use oil, water, hair dye, food colouring and experimentation in my bathroom.
